Clip to ScrapBook
I know syllabicating words is important in first grade (and beyond) but sometimes tedious, so I would think that done in ten minute intervals would be perfect. Maybe you could incorporate some physical activites such as(jumping/clapping/stomping/twirling-
whatever! for each syllable, "musical/rhythm chairs" for a string of words, moving for each syllable while you clap, hopscotch syllables I'm just thinking aloud- will think of more. You could incorporate this into a read aloud by choosing words or sentences from the text to use throughout the week. I think using poetry for this type of lesson would be
wonderful as well, as the children could focus and feel the rhythm of well -selected poetry and concentrate on the language as musical and rhythmic. You could also write the poems on large chart paper to read along and do choral reading at the same time. Hope this fits with what you need! Good luck!
