national park lessons
By Carolyn

Clip to ScrapBook
I have visited most of the national parks. Two parks that I know of which have had large fires include Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons.

I would suggest that you write directly to the national parks. They have a lot
of information which they can share with you. You may also visit their websites where they have information on the animal populations, hiking trails, scenery and terrain, annual rainfall statistics and temperature, etc. I have seen that the national parks also have literature which they sell for children--picture books, especially. If you are interested in a book list of children's literature,
I am sure that they can also share that with you.

If you have any questions about any particular national parks, or about the rebirth of forest fires in the parks after a fire, contact me by e-mail. Chances are, I have been to the parks that you are interested in knowing about.

We visited the Grand Tetons in 1987 for the first time. They had had a fire before we arrived. We visited the park again in 1994. Small lodgepole pines had been born by this time and were covering the former burned-out area. We visited the Grand Tetons again this past summer (2001), and those baby lodgepole pines had become somewhat mature trees. You could still see the evidence of the old fire. It takes so long for a forest to rebuilt itself after a fire.
