vouchers
By Casey

Clip to ScrapBook
Hi there...I also had to write a college paper on vouchers, and I am against them. $20 and you can have it...I made an A!

One of the biggest arguments for me was that with vouchers, people could possibly use government
money to attend religious schools. To me, that violates separation of church and state.

Private schools still have the choice on whether to accept a student or not. They have a reputation to keep up, so when given the choice, they will probably accept only the vouchers of those "good" students. This widens the acheivement gap even more.

People say they want school choice because

the public schools their kids are asigned to aren't up to par. Well, I guarentee that if their kids' teachers saw that voucher money the schools would be WELL above par.

Finally (and this is not going to be a popular opinion)...if one has a problem with a school, that's THEIR problem. If it's in an undesirable district, move. If public schools in general don't float your boat, then come up with the money to send your kid to private school on your own, homeschool, or find a charter school. I wholeheartedly blieve that a child's education is the responsibility of the parent...NOT the government.

We need to concentrate on making our schools better, not helping people find a way around them.
