I found a terrific book called "Paragraph Power" offered through Scholastic--Arrow Book Club. It was in the teacher resource section. It takes you step by step through the teaching of writing of various forms of paragraphs, some which can lead to research writing. I teach 6th grade this year, but have taught 5th and it is adaptable for lower levels also. I am sorry, I am at home and do not have the author's name. Good luck.
