Spelling Words

Hi Moe. This is the spelling system that I use...

On Monday, the students take a pre-test of the spelling words that I have for them. There are 20 words on the list, however, they are tested on 10 of those words on the
list. I give the pre-test for the first ten words only. Any word that they misspell becomes their spelling word. The would continue down the list until they reach 10 words. As an example, if a child gets numbers 5, 6, 9, and 10 wrong, those would be their spelling words plus numbers 11 - 16. The further down the list the more difficult the spelling word becomes.
The idea is to

have students practice the words that they are not able to spell rather than studying words they already know how to spell. This system works for a classroom with many different ability levels.
