Individualized Spelling
By Debbie

Clip to ScrapBook
Hi Moe,
My kids have their own lists based upon their draft writing, high frequency words as well as spelling mini lessons done weekly. Each child has a smaller compostion notebook (sewn binding) and typically there are 8-10 new individual words to learn. In addition, they choose 3-5 lesson words to add to their lists. Mondays they do Look, Say, Cover, Write, Check...Tuesday it's magnetic letters, Wednesday is a pretest, Thursday is analogy (definitely a must), and Friday is their final. They're paired with another speller in the room who's at a similar level to give pre/post tests. The procedure is outlined in Guiding Readers and Writers by Fountas and Pinnell (Heinemann). Best of luck. ;-D
