venting about conferences
By Carolyn

Clip to ScrapBook
Sure, conferences can get a little tiring. They are usually spiritually uplifting to me, though.
I basically get to vent to the parents about their kids, if they aren't doing their homework or completing other responsibilities.
The majority of the time I find the conferences rewarding, because I feel that I have gotten to know my children's parents and the children themselves better. I guess I feel lucky. I haven't had a stressful conference this year.

One thing I did to save time and make the process less of a hassle, though, was to write the conference report as I spoke with the parent rather

than sitting down and writing out the whole bunch at one time. (We are required to write one for each kid.) Also, while sitting with the parent (and sometimes the child) at the conference, I feel more inspired than I would if I were to write the reports at home.

I think it helps if you have a portfolio on hand to show to the parents at conference time. You can point out the strengths and weaknesses of the child.
