My schedule is: Teachers arrive at 7:30 and are permitted to leave at 3:00, Monday through Friday. Our kids aren't allow into the school building until 7:30. Some go to breakfast upon arrival, which is about 7:15. Teaching| assistants watch the kids. All kids leave promptly at the tone--at 2:30. Committee meetings are held at 2:45 or 3:00 after the kids leave. Committees meet upon need. Faculty meetings are held each Tuesday afternoon at 3:00 and end no later than 4:00. We, in South Carolina, have professional days built into our school calendar. There are ten professional days/workdays/record | | days in the calendar. Some, but not all, of these days are for professional development. We also attend professional development workshops during the regular school day and have substitutes in our classrooms. I went to one on Wednesday after Election Day. I had a sub. I will be attending one at Hilton Head for two days in February--again a sub needed. My district is paying for me to attend a four-block workshop in January on a staff development day. That is being held in Columbia. We aren't really REQUIRED to participate in school programs, per se, although it is "encouraged" (translation: Be there!). We have had a School Cleanup Day (on a Saturday; many teachers didn't attend, but community members did the work). Attending a PTO meeting is basically a requirement. Our principal wants teachers to tutor kids after school for $18 per hour, although I think I am busy enough with other stuff that I don't want to volunteer to do that.
