STAR testing
By KimW

Clip to ScrapBook
After students STAR test you can print out a report that will tell you their reading levels. It will be called range. Their is also a column that has the mean of their range. This should be the students starting reading
level. Goals depend on what you want the students to reach, certain number of points, certain reading level, etc. Goals are to be individualized so I can't tell you what to set as a goal. They should read one book a week at least. They should never read a book worth less than 3 points unless special needs require. You should move students up a reading level after they have passed
3 tests in a row; or you could get it that they must make 3 100s in a row on a specific reading level. Then they can move to the next level.
You can grade students on their AR using their goals. If they met goals, average 100 in with skills. If they do not make goals, subtract their actual points or level from their goal. Then subtract that number from 100 and average it in with skills.
It is a complicated process but I hope this helps. I worked in the library this year and had to explain this to our teachers. However, you should know that AR grading procedures differ from school to school.
