honor rolls

When I first started teaching we put honor roll cards into the report cards for the parents to see. It was quiet so the parents could deal with the accomplishment of their child. I really liked that because it was a personal thing.
Now each quarter we have a big assembly where all sorts of awards are given. I feel so sorry for the kids that get nothing. I try really hard to make sure each of mine leave with some sort of paper but it is not always possible. I teach first grade and it's not worth the tears.
I have also noticed by reading the local newspaper that we are the only school (I | |
teach in a Catholic school) in the county that has honor rolls for first and second graders. Some schools start at third grade. I guess this is an issue for the private school board now.
