Homework
By Alyssa

Clip to ScrapBook
I teach 4th, 5th, and 6th grade. I've also searched for ways to make homework more meaningful. I've switched tracks a little recently; now I give homework that is mostly memorization: "Know your division facts of 6." or "Be able to locate, label on a blank map, and spell correctly these 10 major US rivers." This type of homework has two benefits. First, it frees up class time for more interesting, engaging projects. Second, when I don't have to spend hours out of school giving homework feedback, I am more energized and can give more of myself to the classroom. I also assign 20 minutes of free reading each weekday and over the weekend. Hope this helps.
