Spelling Pretests
By Sharon in CA

Clip to ScrapBook
In my 4th grade classroom, we refer to them as "previews", rather than "pretests". Our Reading book has a language arts component which includes spelling. Each spelling list has a bonus/challenge list following the same
pattern or theme. The students who miss 0 - 2 use this list instead of the basic list. They also use this list for any activities assigned during the week. When test day comes, one group reads silently while I administer the test, then we flip-flop. I took me a few years to come up with the best way to test 2 groups - this one seems to work the best. By the way, the pretest goes home
on the day it's taken so that the parents "see and sign" and are aware of which list their child has for the week - it counts as a homework assignment to return the pretest.
