First, I would like to congratulate you on your new job! I currently work at a school that has open classrooms. At first, it took some getting use to. You must be aware that people are constantly moving
Over the years I have gotten use to hearing the teacher beside me teach. In the past three years there has been a different teacher beside me. Every year, I hope that we will be able to work collaboratively. Get to know your neighbors and ask them for suggestions. I'm sure that they will be willing to share their ideas. During testing situations, I often let my neighbors know what time I will be testing. This helps because they generally plan quiet activities during this time. Don't give up all the terrific hands-on activities. I constantly have my students working in groups, presenting and moving about the classroom. I think that using your carpet space for small groups will work just fine! I teach 3rd grade and I have my kids sit on the floor quite a bit. I wish you well with your new job! I'm sure everything will work out just fine! I hope this helps a little!
