magical theme
By Cathy-Dee

Clip to ScrapBook
You might get less resistance with a magical theme, but I guess it really depends on your parents. I know I personally would be uncomfortable with any children I know taking part even a toned down version especially with
wands, magic, etc., But that's a personal point of view. I know it is sometimes hard to balance our personal views with our teaching views. I've seen book series banned in schools because parents were against the series. I like the advice of checking with your principal. At least you would know whether you would be backed or not. I would hate to put in so much work into a theme, get
it started only to have your Principal ask you to change it.

I'm sure there are some classes where there would be absolutely no problem using Harry Potter or a magical theme, while others would cause a major controversy. I've even taught in schools where talking about dinosaurs, space or birth were taboo subjects. Although I may not always agree with the parents they do have the right to ask that their children not participate in something that may be against their belief system.
