Switch teachers - not kids By Donna

I have a personal bias against departmentalizing at such a young age. I feel when parents come in for conferences, they want to talk to a teacher who truly KNOWS their child, not just for a little part of the day. But if you are in a school that does it, I strongly recommend that teachers move from room to room, rather than students. Maybe that's the way your schools do it already. Too many transitions are difficult for children who are not developmentally ready to be so organized and "together" as to move from class to class. I only switch with another teacher for 4th grade science and social studies. I bought a microwave cart at a garage sale, and move my materials next door when it's time for science. It's so much easier than having all the kids move.
