Hi
We do not have any shortages of teachers in the state I live in either (Michigan). So here's how the older teachers seem to get hired here. Find out which districts have a reputation for hiring their subs and only
substitute for those districts. Go the extra mile when you sub in those districts. Make friends with the teachers so that they will go to their principals and say glowing things about you. I know that in my building the teachers keep track of the good subs and tell the secretary to get those subs back time and again. Likewise they also tell the secretary about the subs who are reading
novels or sitting with their feet up on the desk....
This year all the teachers hired in our building were NOT new teachers fresh out of college but rather the tried and true subs that we all requested again and again and will actually hate loosing as a sub because they were so good but we will welcome them to our staff with equal happiness.
