PTO

Clip to ScrapBook
Wow! Was I surprised to hear that a teacher was president of the PTO. Not that you wouldn't do a great job, but don't you have plenty to do? I have been at my school for 20 years and we have always had an active and supportive
parent group, but the president has always been a parent. Two or three teachers (primary and intermediate) always sit on the board and the principal attends every meeting and gives a report. The officers in our club are: pres, VP, treasurer, recording secretary, corresponding secretary, parlimentarian, publicity, historian, and programming. The PTO coordinates all the room moms, organize
and run fundraisers (candy sales, jog-a-thons etc.), plan, set up and clean-up all special events ( back to school bar-b-q, Grandparents Day breakfast, Honor Roll breakfast,) and coordinate several special assemblies a year with invited guests. As with any organization, there are always a core of people who work really hard and many on the fringes. But they have enough people on the board and enough events to keep lots of people busy. They are there to support the teachers and the school, but the teachers do not hold elected offices. Write back if you have any further questions.
