I don't think that comparison is quite fair though...

because the goals of the business world and the goals of school are quite different (making money vs. learning). I would think that at least in elementary one goal should be to feel safe enough to learn without fear of ridicule by classmates. And it's not just the students with low grades that get embarrassed. The students with perfect scores don't want their friends mad at them either.

It seems as if there must be some compromise. What if grades were written at the bottom of the paper, folded over, & perhaps even stapled? The teacher could collect them before and after and then redistribute them afterwards (or something similar).
