5th grade

I also did a similar thing with a job chart. There is an excellent posting (I think on this board) regarding job charts. I got some great ideas. I love the photograper job!

One thing I especially love about 5th grade
is their sense of humor. It was definitely a joy to do some of the creative lessons I did because they so thoroughly enjoyed them.

I was amazed everytime I gave them an extension project. For instance, when we read a reading selection on the Santa Fe trail, I gave them a home assignment to make a wagon model. My instructions were very general. Some of the wagons brought in were

nothing less than extraordinary. We're talking duplicate wagon wheels made from bent wood, with hubs and spikes. I think I was expecting cardboard and paper, and when I saw wood and fabric, WOW! (Some WERE cardboard and paper, but they followed instructions and everyone got an A.) They loved seeing them displayed out in the hall. Even the other classes were commenting on them.

Best of luck. I have taught nothing but 5th grade, so I can compare it to teaching 1st. I do think you will find it a pleasant year!
