interviewing

Clip to ScrapBook
Ellen,
I have been through what you're talking about not once, but twice. (lucky, huh?) I was teaching an alternative program and applied for a regular teaching position. I interviewed and did not get that job. It was
hard to teach there the final few days of school. I applied at another school and was hired as a first grade teacher. But, because the money was "soft" I had to reapply at the end of this school year and reinterview with my new colleagues. Fortunately, I was rehired. It's never easy applying for a job, moreso when your friends have a say so in your hiring. I wish there was something
profound I could add to make you feel better about that.

As to the interviews themselves (I went on several last year), one trick I learned was to take a moment after the question was posed to collect my thoughts. I usually stumble off talking immediately. But I found if I thought for a moment I could do a better job of answering what they were asking. I also tried not to ramble, but stop after a short while and wait to see if they asked a follow-up question. Good luck in your interview. Post and let us know how you do.
