Setting up classroom
By Colin

Clip to ScrapBook
One of the best things you can do when setting up a class is to allow students to choose "partners". This is how we did it in our class a few times. Using colours (Canadian spelling :-)) we had the students choose partners.
For example. They chose a red partner by choosing someone they really enjoyed working with. I would presume that the majority of your students were with each other the year before. A yellow partner was someone that they hadn't worked much with before, but wanted to. A green partner was someone that they had never worked with before...etc. There will always be a few students left
at the end of each colour and those you will have to partner up. This worked extremely well when there was partner work to be done. We just said....Red Partners and the students moved to that partner and got to work. No worrying about who was going to work with whom. We just kept track of which colour was used last and moved on. Hope this is an idea you can use!
