Routines
By Colin

Clip to ScrapBook
Routine is the saving grace for your classroom. Once you get one set up, the students will appreciate it and it will make your day go by much easier. I had folders/binders/bins for almost everything. I had them at my teaching
table and as I did attendance, I asked the students to bring up anything that was due. Field trip forms, homework, etc. They got used to having it out of their backpacks as they sat down and waited for their turn. Everything in my class followed a routine (with humour). Even leaving the room was Stand up, push in your chair and stand behind your chair. Then lined up by group.
If someone moved, their group went last (or they did), not as a punishment but as a good hearted "you moved!!!". It is amazing how a little discipline can be enjoyed and appreciated by students at this age level.
