paddling is embarrassing

I was paddled in fourth grade by my teacher. I had never been considered a problem child by any of my teachers but this one, for some reason. I cried and complained to my mother about it, because I felt I was doing the best I could as a fourth grade student, yet the teacher chose to embarrass me in front of the class by paddling me there. Parents weren't as vocal in those days, it seems, and initially my mom told me to pray, that God was on my side. However, I continued to be miserable, so my mom just took me out of that school and sent me to a Catholic school in my area. I was much happier after that. Now as a teacher, I will never forget that experience with paddling.
