Newly hired as well
By jen

Clip to ScrapBook
I also relate to Lisa -- got hired about two weeks ago for my first teaching position and find myself similarly obsessed. Husband also suggesting I mellow out (and stop ignoring him) : )

Here's my whirlwind experience
-- student taught (actually took over for master teacher who left for maternity leave) at an awesome school last Spring and decided I had to work there next year. Due to enrollment plummeting in my area, a rumor began to be spread that there would be no elementary level hiring at all in the district (and my dream school was going to have to transfer three teachers). Well things turned
around, a few teachers left at "my" school, meanwhile a few other spots opened up around the district, I interviewed and was offered a job, but had to stall while waiting for someone else at dream school to accept a position she had been secretly interviewing for. Finally, everything worked out and got my dream job in third grade at my dream school. But the story doesn't end there -- my principal (who knew that I was pretty open about grade level and really wanting to teach at the school), decided to shift some people and put me at Kindergarten (!) Fortunately, I'm kind of a Kindergarten type person and am cool with it. Also, I have one more student teaching placement to finish this Summer and it just happens to be in Kinder! It is at a year-round school, and just so happens to be the beginning of their school year, so I am getting a chance to "practice" the beginning of Kinder -- how perfect is that? So during the day I am student teaching Kinder at one school (spending 8 hours a day) then I'm going home, changing clothes and heading to next years school to work on my room. At night I am talking to teacher friends, reading Kinder books trying to get up to speed, or scanning websites for ideas. Am I nuts or what! The week after my student teaching ends, I have orientation, meetings and then the year begans. No down time. I have a little 'support' group set up with my teacher friends in my program, which is helping us to deal. Email me if you want to chat!
