Marvin Redpost books are great...my favorite /and that of my first graders is Don't Pick on me but the others Is He A Girl? Alone in His Teacher's House and the one about the Flying Birthday Cake are really goood..very different from Louis Sachar's other books about Wayside school.
My kids also love How to EaT Fried Worms.
