Split
By sam

Clip to ScrapBook
Hi-I taught a 3/4 split last year and thought it was especially beneficial to the lower grade in the split. At my school they tend to put more of the independent workers in the splits so there were very few discipline issues
(which wastes EVERYONE'S time). I was told as a split teacher, to focus on the higher curriculum. Although it's important to make sure content isn't missed, there is so much overlapping between grade levels that it wasn't much of an issue. Students learn to depend on each other a little better also because when I was working on specific curriculum with one grade, the other group needed
to be busy working. It takes a lot of organization on the part of the teacher, but I think the positives far outweigh the negatives. If your son is already an advanced learner, I think the split concept is a great opportunity. Of course, a lot of it also depends on his teacher! Good Luck!
