classroom management

I agree that you shoud do what you say immediately don't let it go a minute. I use a management technique called learnball. My book is pretty old, but I am pretty sure it is on the web. The main idea is to put the kids
in teams and have them use positive peer pressure to keep each other on task and even courteous. My kids earn hoop shots when they go out of their way to help others or give extra in assignments. The class is divided into teams. I give the teams lots of time to get to know each other. Then the teams earn points for being the first team with their books out, the quietest team, etc.
At the end of the day, we take hoop shots and the team with the most points wins. As a class, we decide what are goal is maybe the first team to 1000 points or the most points by March 30th-- whatever. The teams also decide what the reward will be. I have used it for 8 years and found it to be very successful.
