paddling - once again

I had an extremely disruptive and unruly class of fifth graders last year with which no disciplinary measures would work--at least not very often or for very long. I did hear the word "paddle" circulating, but I would never have considered it as an option. I would not have felt comfortable striking a child for any reason. Also, you could hurt a child with a paddle. I have two boys of my own and never considered paddling them. I usually found myself trying to reason with them and leading them to understand why what they did was wrong.
