paddling
By Pam

Clip to ScrapBook
I do not approve of paddling either. I use good management techniques in my classroom. The procedures in Harry Wong's book the "First Days of School" really work. I used them my first year of teaching. I taught fifth grade
and my first year was a success. I had very good classroom control. I could leave my room and the students would continue to work quietly. I had what one teacher called several trouble makers in my class from fourth grade the year before, but these students never caused me any problems. I truly believe that you respect the students they will learn to respect you.
As far as how
I discipline my own children at home. I have four girls, I do not hit them. They know what is expected of them and they do it.
When they do cross the line, I take away their tv, pool, or phone time. I give them extra chores around the house, but most of all I talk to them and listen to them. I respect them and they give that respect back.
I love children and I cannot stand the thought of hurting one. Violence is so wrong. And yes, there are school districts that still paddle. My children attend one. I signed a form for them not to be paddled. I'm glad I need, because my four year olds teacher wanted to paddle her on the first few days of school. Why? Because she would not stay in her seat. Sorry, this is no reason to paddle a child. My two cents worth.
