parent problems
By Melissa

Clip to ScrapBook
I taught second grade this past year. Another second grade teacher and I switched classes. She taught math and science, and I taught my students and hers reading/writing/spelling. I had a student who could not do any more
than write letters. He could not write a single word. I don't know how he got out of first grade. He also was a major discipline problem because he could not even begin to do grade level work. I called his parents in for several conferences. It came down to the parents meeting with me in the principal's office to complain about me! The entire problem was me, not the child, not
the parents (who had divorced), but ME! Furthermore, they demanded that their child be moved out of my classroom and into another. The principal asked for my opinion about this, and I told him that the problem was on-going, not just a whim on the part of the parents. I was just so happy to get the kid out of my classroom, even though I was irritated that it was all my fault that the kid couldn't do any reading or writing. Well, the kid didn't do any better in the other teacher's room, at least academically, but I am sure that the parent didn't dare to blame this other teacher after putting up all of that fuss.
