I'd suggest you get Guiding Readers and Writers GL 3-6...it provides an excellent balanced literacy framework for teaching. It's written by Fountas and Pinnell, and published by Heinemann. Another great book is called Conversations by Regie Routman, also published by Heinemann. If you go to their website, you can view sample lessons, activities and the table of contents of most of their books.
