New board
By Debbie

Clip to ScrapBook
Hi all,
So sorry I caused some 'gentle opposition' (Just saw the post, I was on vacation) but isn't that what this country is all about??? And that's exactly why I asked...And I will reprint the notes I sent George on
the clarification of the new board and its title. Several of you have already answered some of my questions/thoughts...
Email 1 "I guess I must have missed the request for the Christian teacher busy board...and I really must object strongly...Just what is the difference between the advice you'd give any teacher as compared to the advice given on a 'Christian board'? I believe very
strongly between the separation between church and state, and also don't see what special issues should be aired that wouldn't encompass private school issues??? If this board really is to be, I will have to say my goodbyes now, because as a religious minority in this country, I'm tired of celebrating only by and for the majority...Or on the flip side, why not set up a board for each religion, and other 'controversial topics-homosexuality, etc.'..let me know what is decided. I thank you for reviewing my request."
Email 2 "I need to reread the original postings for the new board-sorry about my confusion on the title. I absolutely think the creation of any or all the possibilities I mentioned could be WONDERFUL, as long as every and all the possibilities would be able to be addressed. I guess I can see there would be some special topics to be addressed by non-public schools, but I personally would like to see it titled as such.
What I'm seeing in schools is a 'select' smattering of the dominant culture's beliefs-think the Winter Concert program that has music/plays from only a 'Christian' point of view, instead of a variety of all the valuable and marvelous ethnic minorities that make up the human race. I do wonder when I see posts for ideas on a religious holiday, is he/she sticking to traditions/customs of a culture of somehow allowing religious beliefs to enter into the teaching in a public school, and again I have NO problem with the teaching of (all world) religion(s) in a public school, as long as the instruction is devoid of a teacher's point of view. Did you ever read the book 'The Children's Story'? Its message is about the tremendous power a teacher has over her students thoughts and ideas. Sometimes I don't think we realize that because we're so busy trying to 'cover it all'."
Anyway, that's all of it...and I still don't believe a teacher has the right to share her/his beliefs with a child, whether it's in a public or private school...We're too important and influential in a child's life; They need to hear ALL viewpoints in order to make an informed decision regarding religion, politics, etc. when they're able and have as much information as possible...
Please, don't consider this a DIS to ANYONE, which was why I only originally addressed my questions to George, but take the time to see things from another point of view...Have a great summer ALL!!! And I look forward to seeing the next replies...only in America!!! ;-D Debbie
