Clip to ScrapBook
My thing with the store is that with mixed ability grouping, the slower learners tend to get left out of the rewards. I had a student do the best she could all year and cry all year because other students were getting enough
points to go to the store. I rewarded her in other ways by setting goals for her ability level and presenting her with pencils and stickers on my own. But it wasn't the same as going to the a/r store with the other students. It was sad and I felt bad for her. In our school a student had to reach so many points every 6 weeks in order to even go to the store, this in itself made it
difficult for the slower learners.
I'm not saying the store isn't good. It is. But I just feel all students need to feel successful if at all possible....that's all.
