hang in there
By jl, fourth grade

Clip to ScrapBook
A very normal feeling, especially with summer school! The funny thing is, as more kids are added, usually reluctantly, they tend to upset the apple cart because they missed the first few days of routine, etc. Transitions
can be difficult. It's nice to hear that your Reader's Workshop is going well and that you will stick with this--chalk it up to the trials and tribulations of the first year of teaching. Perhaps if you share what it is that you do during guided reading, some of us may be able to offer some suggestions to make this time go more effectively--are you working with the whole class at this time
or just a small group? What are the others doing? Would it be feasible to set them to work on some computers, centers or file folder games? Let us know how your day is structured and maybe we can offer some suggestions. Hang in there, in the end you will be surprised at how far they have come! Enjoy your week!
