Get yourself a copy of Harry and Rosemary Wong's book: "How to be an Effective Teacher - The First Days of School" [ISBN 0-9629360-2-2]. It's GREAT, & has helped me feel a little less nervous about what to do those first days/weeks. The Wong's suggest that the first days be spent getting acquainted with each other AND the classroom procedures, which are different from "classroom rules". Read the book. It'll help calm some fears.
