    We also have a weekly star student. [I dislike the "Teacher's Pet" title, probably a carry over from my grammar school days when kids were teased about being "teacher's pet".]
    The Friday before, our Star would be given an info packet to go home. It would include a note explaining that each child gets a chance to be the star & would include a small biography sheet to fill out with parents help. This bio & any pictures would be displayed in the classroom. The child could bring in special momentos(stuffed toys, pictures, books, etc) to share with the class that would be left out on display all week. Sometimes children made arrangements to bring in their pets for a visit. They may also bring in a favorite short storybook that would be shared with the class. On Friday the star student had the option to bring in a treat to share with the class before they went home (jolly ranchers, suckers, etc. something small & fairly inexpensive).
    We also went alphabetically, but starting at Z
    The "star" isn't given any other special privileges.
