AR Points

We just completed our first full year of using AR with our 4th and 5th graders (K-5 school). The primary grades will be on line to participate starting in August. Thank goodness we did not fall into the trap of awarding prizes for points. Our students seemed to be happy with simply striving to get as many points as possible. We gave them nice certificates as they reached various levels and also tied in point goals with grades, based on reading ability. I am simply pleased with the fact that many of my 4th graders who began the year as very hesitant readers ended the year reading more and reading books appropriate for their level.Can you opt out of allowing your kids to redeem points or will you be forced to participate since it is schoolwide?
