I agree By Trish

Eve, I for one don't agree with having students handle passing out test papers. I don't believe that it is right for them to have the opportunity to look at every other student's grade. As a student, I would not want that. I have heard, and was told in college, that it is against the law because of confidentiality. In college, our grades were posted by our college number.. that way, no one knew who was who. During student teaching, I would watch as my cooperating teacher would had 2 stacks of papers to 2 students to pass out. They would look over every paper prior to handing them out. It aggrevated | | me. I am sorry, they have no right to do that. It also didn't save any time. Actually they would take longer since they would look at everyone's grades. Once I took over, I passed out the papers. yes, it is time consuming.. but legally it is the only correct way. To save a little time, I did it while they were working on board work and I sorted the papers by the way the students sat. Each paper, prior to turning in to me (this is something I had to do in college), would be folded in half, with their name written on the outside. This is how they were returned. If the students chose to share their grades, that was up to them. I would just make sure that when papers were passed out, that the students also had work to do. Now, granted most of the time, they would wait in agony to see their papers, but some of them would actually work. I would give incentive points for those that would work. Hope this helps!
