What does every first year teacher need??? The stress and time responsibility of coaching cheerleading!!!

My first year teaching I was asked in Novemeber to take over the chearleaders. What was I going to say?? NO???
not if I wanted my job!! Now I had been a cheerleader in Jr. High and 9th grade but quit to join the debate team. So with little to no knoweledge I took it on.
I coached (voluntarily) for the next 7 years and loved every minute of it. I even got so into it that I took the girls to compete at the state and national levels. But I started at 21 years old (yes I know I started teaching

young ) and quit at 28---I had trouble keeping up and other things took priority (family).

But my advice...get training!!!! I went from CA to NC to get certified as a cheerleading coach and saftey regualations etc... Cheerleading (at least where we were) is a ton of stunting and tumbling involved. Also see what type of squad she is going to deal with--song, cheer, stunt, dance and how many levels. Do they have a coach and are just looking for an advisor or are they saying advisor and meaning coach.
