What to buy By L.P.

Start out with just what you need at first. Outfitting a classroom is a huge thing! And it never seems to end. I've been collecting for years, ever since I started college, and it seems like there is always more I will| need. Go to the Dollar Store (I love it!), if you have one, and buy small plastic bins to hold books, supplies, everything. I'm sure you'll find more things than those at the Dollar Store. Pick up books at yard sales, E-bay, book clubs. Make sure you have some at all levels because you will have all levels of readers. Buy or borrow math counters. These are a necessity but sometimes | | they seem to magically disappear from the rooms they give new teachers. (That was the first thing I checked when they let me look in my room). I absolutely need them in kindergarten. Buy some board stuff but that kind of thing, you can get as you go along. I usually just buy borders and put up the kids' work for bulletin boards. Arrange it in different ways. They love seeing it up there. Take advantage of your schools die-cuts and make letters for your headers. One school I subbed at had dinosaur die-cuts! Guess where I was at lunch time? You might want to pick up some used or cheap games/puzzles at the yard sales, too. Goodwill is another source. They come in handy for free time or indoor recess. It does take time to accumulate what you need but we'll get there eventually. Maybe... LOL Laurie
