First week of school

I agree with the proceeding answers. My suggestion to help you be on top of things is to get files with your students names on them ready. Use the files for returned forms. Then another set of files should be set up for starting
a portfolio of thier work from day one. Of course you will be selective about what you put in these files, but it is nice to have some first day writing to include.
Try journalling right away. Do some community building exercises. Introduce yourself and tell about your family etc. Go over school rules and classroom rules and procedures. Keep your classroom rules general and let
them interpret them. That way they can cover a lot of territory.
Remember your students are anxious. They need to know who you are, what to expect and what is expected of them. Also try giving them a preview of coming attractions. Tell them all the exciting things they will be learning. Talk it up!
Don't wait too long to start lessons though. There is hardly enough time in the year to teach everything that needs to be taught.
