Supplies
By Chris

Clip to ScrapBook
Don't feel too bad. Many new teacher experience the "empty room" treatment. Just think of it as a way to get a clean start. You won't have a lot of broken supplies and games to go through! I would ask my principal if I
could purchase a few items to get started. Have a list for him with the estimated cost. Most of my principals have been very good about doing this. They want you to be successful! You will never know unless you ask.

I have also found that other teachers will share things with you. We often rotate center materials and share resources at my school. Let the others know what you need and

see if they will offer. You will want to check with your schools media specialist to see if Math manipulative and reading/phonics cards are available. The media person may be able to order these for you. Many schools check these out through the library. Overhead projectors and tape players may also be checked out through the library. Some times there will be discarded items in the teacher's lounge. Especially when the teachers start working in the rooms. They may find duplicate items and give them away.

Just as the previous post stated, I would spend my own money on the things that you want to keep for yourself. Spend the school's money on consumable items. AND... Don't forget garage sales, you can find great things to use for math manipulatives and center games.

Have a great time getting ready for the new year. I wish you the best.

Chris
