When I was taking my social studies class, those that wanted to develop units for first graders developed them based on the community. For example: Who are the people in our community? Who are the people in your family? If you have a town center perhaps you can take a walking field trip stopping to visit the police station, post office, town hall, grocery store, etc. I hope this helps you!
