Welcome to first grade

Hi Sebreania,

Don't worry things will come together fine for you. The first two or three weeks you spend more time on the basics, classroom rules, getting to know all the kids, etc. Check to see if your school district
or State has the curriculum outcomes on the web.

Usually in first grade most teachers start the year reviewing the letter names and sounds, teaching the first batch of basic sight words. Check on the web for dolch lists to help you out. Or email me I have quite a few sites bookmarked. I start the year doing nursery rhymes and other rhymes.
In math start with patterns and numbers

to 20.

This should help you begin to focus.

Other things to think about, how you might set up your room. Are you using desks or tables? If you are using desks are you going to put them in rows or group them.
How do you plan on handling bathroom breaks.
Where will you store extra supplies the kids bring (I use ziplock bags)
Are you going to do a home-reading program.
What are some typical morning activities you'll do with the kids. Such as calendar, weather, story time, journal writing.
Are you going to have the kids keep track of how many days they've been at school. This is a good way to track and anticipate the 100th day of school.

Have fun and enjoy your first year teaching.
