I give my students 'Kids Time', where they are able to do most anything they'd like in the room. They can play games (math strategy games are popular), do projects for content area studies, read, write, or whatever... This gives me a chance to greet them all individually and there's time for kids who didn't finish something from the day before to complete it before we start our morning meeting. It's a nice way to develop and maintain a learning community...Debbie ;-D
