Underwater ideas
By Crystal

Clip to ScrapBook
I like to start each year with a theme. I then usually use the theme for everything in my room: job boards, reading, writing, math, rewards, activities, etc. (Most of the time, I probably go over board, but the kids love
it). I was debating between your theme or sports this year and decided on sports. Some ideas that I have seen or thought of are:
Job board: helping Hands. Use an octopus as the main board on each tentacle write the job and use shells or fish for students names and then rotate it.

You could use it in your reading center: dive into a good book, or get hooked on reading, even buy

a fishing net (hammock) to put books into.

Use fish for name tags.

Welcome BB: The "school" is Cool. Put students names on fish.

For writing: Whale of a Tale

You could even expand into boats or a beach theme.

Just a few ideas. Hope they help. Just remember, fifth graders still love crazy things like this.
