one more concern I just realized

I didn't think about this one until I was talking with a colleague last night.

Phobias...

Kids are usually pretty good, it's the parents and also colleagues who may have to come into your classroom from time to time.
I have worked with some people where the sight of a hamster, gerbil or mouse would create a panic attack almost immediately. And my friend I was talking to cannot bear the sight of snakes - she can't even stand to watch them on TV or see pictures of them. While I dislike certain animals like giant spiders - I can be in the same room with them. However to keep the peace I would check
with staff members too.

I like the idea of bringing your pet dog or cat to school if they were well trained. I've heard of a school that did a pilot project of having a couple of dogs in the school that were school mascots. The dogs worked a lot with the troubled kids and supposedly the program worked out well.
