As a teacher with allergies I would definetly encourage you to wait until you start the year before investing in a pet. It takes me anywhere from a few minutes to a few days exposure before I know if I am allergic to certain| animals. You may want to borrow a pet and introduce it to your class before deciding if you want to have one and to ensure their are no allergic reactions. Maybe you can have a student bring in their pet if it is the same as what you are considering. My neighbor teacher had two birds, Sassy and Dipstick. The kids loved the birds and did the needed care (except cage cleaning). | |
They found that if they got to loud the birds would screach, so they learned to work quietly. This was wonderful for her children. The wildest child in the room could often be found near the cage talking quietly to the birds. He really connected with them. I was considering a frog or a toad as a class pet. Has anyone had any experience with this type of pet?
