book club idea
By Debbie

Clip to ScrapBook
I teach 3rd grade in an area where there are many fundamental Christians. I, too, have been afraid of opening the Harry Potter can of worms. It just kills me to see so many kids getting into the book but having to let that momentum pass us by. I thought I would try having an optional book club for those who are interested and have parent permission. I might meet once or twice a week (possibly at lunch, or during a reading time when the other kids can choose other "book clubs") for book discussions and let the kids do the reading on their own to prepare for the book club meetings. Unfortunatly, I thought of this idea just before the end of the year, so I haven't tried it yet. Maybe something like that will work for you.
