I am absolutely jealous reading these posts! Last august I was hired for my first time and I only had 48 hours of notice before my students arrived. I went to the closest teacher store and bought alot of motivational posters.
i teach 8th grade self contained/inclusion. Through the first couple of weeks of school, I slowly added more things to the room........... rules chart, homework charts, the writing process, standards, etc. As for setting up the room, i changed it at least half a dozen times and i plan on changing it again over the summer.
Also, during the first week, i had the students do alot of

fun, get to know you activities that we displayed around the room. Even 8th graders like to color and do fun projects!
